La aspettavamo tutti da diverso tempo, centinaia e centinaia di rumors (veri e falsi) hanno riempito pagine di blog, forum e siti di tutto il mondo e finalmente, a soli 3 anni dall’uscita dell’ottino e riuscitissimo precedente modello, Canon ha finalmente deciso di annunciare ufficialmente la Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
Una mossa resasi necessaria dopo l’annuncio da parte di Nikon della D800, evoluzione della D700 che tuttavia aveva già ben 5 anni divita.
Le ceratteristiche di questa nuova reflex, già ben note da tempo, ci fanno subito pensare che più che a una naturale evoluzione della 5D Mark II, questa sia una fotocamera che cerca di avvicinarsi alla rivoluzionaria 1Dx, annunciata pochi mesi fa, il top del top della Canon per le reflex ultraprofessionali.

Rispetto al precedente modello, le novità tecnologiche sono diverse. A cominciare dal nuovo sistema AF, con ben 61 punti di messa a fuoco (contro i 9 del precedente modello), di cui 41 a croce.
Il nuovo sensore CMOS da 22,3 megapixel, concepito e realizzato da Canon, utilizza micro-obiettivi gapless, apparsi per la prima volta su un sensore Canon a pieno formato nel modello EOS-1D X, per assicurare che tutta la luce che raggiunge il sensore sia diretta nei pixel. Questa capacità di raccolta della luce a elevata efficienza combinata con la potenza di elaborazione del processore DIGIC 5+ ha permesso un guadagno di due stop nella gamma ISO standard rispetto al modello EOS 5D Mark II. La sensibilità raggiunge l’incredibile valore di 102.400 ISO per gli scatti in condizione di luce scarsissima.
Il corpo macchina, ovviamente tropicalizzato, ha uno chassis in alluminio e una struttura esterna in lega di magnesio.
L’otturatore è stato testato per 150.000 cicli, il mirino ha ora una copertura del 100%.
Tra le funzioni avanzate della EOS 5D Mark III sono da segnalare Multiple exposure, che combina fino a nove esposizioni differenti in un unica immagine, la nuova funzione HDR (intervalli fino ±3 stop e cinque stili, natural, art standard, art vivid, art bold, art embossed), la bolla elettronica a due assi e la nuova funzione di editing e comparazione delle foto scattate in RAW, con funzione di visualizzazione side-by-side.
Anche le prestazioni video, che già di per se erano più che eccellenti (ricordiamo che la Canon 5d Mark II viene già ampiamente utilizzata per le riprese cinematografiche) è stata migliorata.
